What Does “Most Powerful” or “Strongest” Passport Mean?

A powerful passport means that the holder can travel to most countries without the need of visa in advance. This gives the passport holder freedom, access for education, business, and leisure, as well as convenience. This clearly reflects the country’s strong international relations as well as its economic stability.

How Henley Passport Index Ranks Countries?

The Henley Passport Index ranks countries based on the strength of their passports. This index was created about 20 years ago. It uses Timatic data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Timatic data is a global database that outlines all travel rules for traveling internationally. The rank is determined based on the number of destinations a particular country can visit without requiring a prior visa.

India's rank in the Henley Passport Index 2026

India ranks at the 80th rank on the Henley Passport Index 2026 with visa-free access to about 55 countries.
