Sri Lanka ETA For Indians

The Sri Lanka tourist visa is absolutely free for Indians. This means that there is no tourist Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) fee for Indian passport holders. As per a landmark policy formalized by the Sri Lankan government, India is a part of an expanded roster of eligible countries. These countries are granted a USD 0 visa fee for short-term tourism.

However, every traveler must understand that only the fee is waived, not the entire process. You are not required to pay any processing fees for the standard tourist ETA, but you still must apply for an ETA online. You must also secure an approved ETA before you board your flight.

Sri Lanka has strictly enforced pre-arrival authorization. This means that on-arrival tourist visa options are now inactive. Hence, you must have a pre-secured ETA when you arrive at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo.

Guidelines To Remember

The current free tourist ETA scheme in Sri Lanka has some specific guidelines for duration, entry, and more. Check it out below.

With the free ETA, you can stay up to 30 days in Sri Lanka. This will be calculated from the date of your first arrival in the country. Within that period of 30 days, this ETAt actually grants you double-entry access. This means that you can exit the country for a few days and then return back as long as you come back within the 30-day timeline. Remember that re-entering will not increase your duration, as it will be counted from the very first entry into the country.

The scheme applies to official, service, diplomatic, and ordinary Indian passport holders.

Sri Lanka Visa Documents

Sri Lankan immigration authorities at the airport arrival gates or check-in counters enforce strict entry documentation. This is applicable even though the ETA fee is waived, so make sure you carry the following documents.

Your Indian passport must have a minimum validity of 6 months from your date of arrival in Sri Lanka. The passport must have at least one of two blank pages.

You must have confirmed proof of travel which shows that you will be leaving the country right before the expiry of the 30-day window. Travelers who come without any return ticket are at the risk of being denied boarding at their departure airport in India.

The next thing that you must carry is proof of accommodation. It can be resort vouchers, hotel booking confirmations, or a formal invitation letter that has the contact details of your family or friends with whom you will be staying.

Remember to have a printed or digital copy of the official WTA approval notice. It is generally sent by email.

To ensure that you can support your stay, the officers might ask for your bank statements, cash, or international credit cards. This must be equivalent to USD 30 per day.

All passengers must visit the official Sri Lankan immigration portal and fill out the Arrival or Departure Card Form 3 to 4 days in advance.
