Delhi Government Sanctions INR 657 Crore For Road Repair With Geo-Tagged Tracking

The Delhi government has sanctioned INR 657 crore for the repair work of about 270 kms of roads across the city. This news was announced by Rekha Gupta, the Chief Minister of Delhi, on Wednesday. The decision was the result of a meeting of the expenditure and finance committee, chaired by Rekha Gupta. The officials are directed by the Chief Minister to, without fail, upload geo-tagged pictures of the roadworks in order to track progress. The pictures must be uploaded before, during, and after the road work. Here’s everything you must know about this new development. 

Delhi Government Approves Road Repair Worth INR 657 Crore

Chief Minister of Delhi, Rekha Gupta, said that the government wishes to build long-lasting and stronger roads. The government will use the geo-tagged monitoring system to make sure that the process is completely transparent. 

She mentioned that all the projects under this will come with a five-year defect liability period. This means that the contractors will be responsible for the maintenance of the road after completion. At the same time, if any pothole develops during this period, it has to be repaired within 48 hours. 

The officials said that about INR 263.61 crore has been set aside for 107.92 km in the South zone. About INR 247.31 crore has been set aside for 104.42 km in the North zone. For the East Maintenance Zone, about INR 147.08 crore has been earmarked for 58.29 km of roads. 

The project will include:

  • Road markings
  • Signagaes
  • Reflectors
  • Kerb channel for drainage management
  • Safety barriers
  • Cold milling of damaged road surfaces
  • Laying of dense bituminous concrete and bituminous macadam layers

Zone-Wise Tender Model

The initiative will introduce a zone-wise composite tendering system. This will replace the old road-wise tendering system. 

The major stretches that will undergo repair are: 

East Delhi:

  • Outer Ring Road stretch: Chandgi Road, Akhara to Wazirabad
  • BBM Road
  • Avtar Singh Marg
  • Road number 66: Seelampur red light on the GT Road to Gokalpuri red light
  • GT Road

South Delhi:

  • Mandi Road
  • Nelson Mandela Marg
  • SSN Marg
  • Barapullah Elevated Road (Phase-1)
  • Pankha Road

North Delhi:

  • Pankha Road (Bhagwan Mandir Marg)
  • Lala Ganesh Das Khatri Marg
  • Satguru Ram Singh Marg
  • Old Pankha Road
  • Major Sudesh Marg
