From 2019 to 2026, the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi has been winning the best airport award every year. The reason behind the airport bagging the first rank for the 8th consecutive year is its major infrastructure upgrades, strong operational efficiency, and expanding global connectivity.
The airport is known as a primary international gateway for offering connections between Europe, Southeast Asia, and North America. The airport has upgrades with streamlined biometric boarding systems, continuous terminal expansions, and self-baggage drops. This has led to an improved passenger flow in recent years.
It has high-volume excellence as it handles over 70 million passengers annually, surging to the 3rd position globally. The airport has also climbed to the 28th rank in the worldwide ranking by Skytrax from its 32nd rank in 2025. It is the only Indian airport in the world’s top 30 airports list in 2026. \

A Global Passenger Satisfaction Survey
The Skytrax awards are determined using a global passenger satisfaction survey. This survey covers hundreds of nationalities across facility touchpoints and key services. The rankings are calculated using comprehensive passenger feedback. They assess over 30 key performance indicators across the entire travel journey.
This survey was conducted for over seven months from August 2025 to February 2026. The criteria include terminal experience, airport operations, wayfinding, staff service, and facilities. The participation for both airports and the voters is entirely free.
