2. Chaltabagan Lohapatty: Ramnami Samaj

Chaltabagan Lohapatty has chosen “Nishan – The Mark” as their theme for 2026 Durga Puja. The theme is inspired by the historic Ramnami Samaj of Chhattisgarh. It is about a social reform movement from the 19th century, when the Ramnami sect emerged as a powerful protest against caste discrimination. The followers tattooed the name of Lord Ram on their entire bodies. The committee visited this sect in Chhattisgarh to understand their story. Artisans have constructed structural elements covered in the textual patterns mimicking the markings on the body of every person in this community. This installation is set to bring a lesser-known chapter of India’s history.

3. Sreebhumi Sporting Club: Hawa Mahal

Sreebhumi Sporting Club is all set to bring the Rajputana architectural heritage from Jaipur to Kolkata. The original structure, Hawa Mahal, was commissioned by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh in 1799 and designed by architect Lal Chand Ustad. It is known as a masterpiece of 18th-century Indian engineering. Artisans used specialized woodwork, pink-sandstone structures, and more to capture the royal aesthetic of the original landmark. Grand crystal chandeliers, warm lighting, and intricate work will create an authentic palace-like ambience. Through this grand installation, Sreebhumi is set to offer its visitors an immersive walk through India’s architectural history.

4. Chetla Agrani: Bengal’s Folk Culture

South Kolkata’s Chetla Agrani is set to honor the regional art traditions of rural Bengal with a theme talking about the indigenous folk heritage. The pandal will celebrate centuries-old artistic practices that have witnessed Bengal’s rural economy and cultural identity across generations. The installation will incorporate authentic Pattachitra, an ancient scroll painting that was used for oral storytelling. It will also feature traditional terracotta tiles and handcrafted wooden art forms. The space is designed to highlight the skilled hands of village artisans who have, even today, kept this art alive through the colonial and post-colonial shifts. The main idol of Goddess Durga will feature ornaments that are handcrafted by such rural artists. This is a tribute to Bengal’s cultural history.

5. Hazra Park Durgotsab – Roots of Bengal

Hazra Park Durgotsab presents “Chirayat – The Roots of Bengal” as its 2026 Durga Puja theme. The theme focuses on exploring the continuous history of indigenous craftsmanship. It features ancient craft lineages, including Dokra, which is a lost-wax metal casting technique. The pandal design combines handcrafted wooden dolls, brass elements, and terracotta pottery. The walkways are lined with clay art pieces and intricate metallic art pieces that show the step-by-step casting process as done by the tribals. Thus, its central deity will be adorned with handcrafted metalwork and traditional folk motifs instead of modern ornamentation. It is set to celebrate the artistic history of the region.
