Recently, the South East Central Railway shared these guidelines on their official X account. Their post detailed, “A valid unreserved ticket, secured from the Rail One App, must be present on the registered mobile device it was booked from. Additionally, a photo ID must accompany the smartphone throughout the journey. Tickets received via WhatsApp or any other format will not serve as acceptable travel authorization.”

An incident involved a passenger who was fined despite holding a ticket because the digital version she displayed during a ticket inspection was invalid. While traveling in the unreserved compartment of Train No. 18517 Korba-Visakhapatnam Link Express, when questioned by the ticket examiner, she presented a WhatsApp screenshot of her unreserved ticket.
Her brother had booked it through the Rail One app and shared the image. However, railway officials observed that the ticket was issued at 4:45 PM, well after the train had already departed at 4:10 PM. As per the regulations, any unreserved ticket generated post-departure is considered null and void, resulting in the passenger being fined.
