Diwali 2026 is just a few days away – set to start from the second week of November 2026. The good news centered around Diwali celebrations, especially around Diwali, is that the Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR) government will allow the bursting of green crackers. However, this special permission to burst green crackers is valid only on November 7 and 8, 2026. In this blog, let’s take a look at the recent Delhi NCR firecracker rules 2026 permitting green crackers.

Delhi NCR Firecracker Rules 2026

A Bench Of Justices Allowed Bursting Of Fireworks

The Supreme Court has permitted the sale and bursting of approved green firecrackers in Delhi and the NCR for a limited period around Diwali. However, the approval to burst green crackers will be subject to enforcement and monitoring safeguards.

A Bench of Justices MM Sundresh and PB Varale allowed bursting of fireworks only between 6 AM and 7 AM, and 8 PM and 10 PM on November 7 and 8, 2026. After these two days, a complete ban on bursting crackers will be implemented from November 9, 2026.

In its October 29 order, the Bench had prohibited bursting firecrackers within 300 meters of hospitals, nursing homes, primary and district health centers, old-age homes, educational institutions, and notified silence zones. These areas must be declared “No-cracker zones”, marked on the ground and publicized, as directed by the Court.

Manufacturers Allowed To Sell Green Crackers

The Court took this decision because a total ban had not made a significant difference to Delhi NCR’s air quality. It also failed to stop the illegal sale of firecrackers, as many sellers continued selling them by passing them off as ‘green crackers’. As a result, the Court decided to allow green crackers under strict rules for a limited period of time.

The Supreme Court has allowed certified manufacturers to make approved green firecrackers between November 2 and 6, 2026. Only crackers listed on the CSIR-NEERI website can be sold at locations approved by district authorities and online sales are strictly prohibited.

Surprisingly, the Delhi government has allowed traders with canceled licenses to sell approved crackers – temporarily between November 4 and 6. Every box must have a unique QR code that buyers can scan to check details and certification.
