On Saturday, Union Minister of State (MoS) in the Ministry of Railways, Veeranna Somanna, visited the Mangaluru Junction railway station in Karnataka. The reason behind his visit was to inspect all the railway projects, and he was accompanied by Dakshina Kannada MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta, Deputy Commissioner, H.V. Darshan, and Southern Railway Phalghat Divisional Railway Manager Madhukar Roat.
After the inspection, he spoke to the reporters and announced the launch of Mangaluru-Bengaluru Vande Bharat. He did not mention any date, but announced the launch of this train service in the upcoming month of June 2026. The minister also mentioned that this demand came from Dakshina Kannada Member of Parliament Capt. Brijesh Chowta.
This Vande Bharat service between Mangaluru and Bengaluru will be flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as per the union minister. He also mentioned that the electrification work on the stretch has been completed.

More Projects In The Pipeline
Veeranna Somanna mentioned that the introduction of new services that will serve other places on the Karnataka Coast is in the pipeline. He said that they will be prioritising all the important stations on the Karnataka Coast.
There is a study ongoing to develop a new railway station near the Mangaluru International Airport. At the same time, he mentioned that the Mangaluru railway station is currently undergoing renovation. It will be inaugurated in October after the renovation is completed. The cost of this upgrade is about INR 38 crores. He informed that the ministry is also looking at developing Mangaluru Central, and the master plan is in its final stages.
