In light of recent incidents across the country, the need for safety, security, and training in emergency preparedness has become increasingly critical. Following Operation Sindoor and a series of mock drills, the Maharashtra government is taking steps to ensure readiness for future challenges. In this context, Dada Bhuse, Maharashtra's Minister of School Education, has announced that basic military training will be introduced to students starting from Class 1. This initiative aims to foster patriotism, instill discipline, and encourage regular physical activity among children.

Dada Bhuse emphasized that this basic military training will help cultivate a sense of love for the nation, while also promoting habits such as consistent exercise and discipline, which will ultimately benefit the students in various aspects of their lives.

Basic Military Training Proposal Approved By Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has expressed strong support for this initiative. To effectively implement the program, assistance will be sought from 250,000 ex-servicemen as well as sports teachers, National Cadet Corps (NCC) personnel, and Scouts and Guides.

This proposal arises amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, particularly following the Pahalgam attack on April 22 and India's retaliatory measures during Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Maharashtra is the first state to implement this measure, and we hope that many other states across India will make it mandatory as well. This initiative will not only help school kids learn about their country and engage in various exercises, but it will also teach them how to protect themselves and others in times of emergency.

Which Countries Require Compulsory Military Service

Several countries require military service from their citizens. In Russia, men aged 18 to 27 must serve 12 months, but those with religious or personal convictions can choose alternative national service.

South Korea mandates military service for men, lasting 21 months in the army, 23 months in the navy, or 24 months in the air force, with exemptions for successful athletes.

In Brazil, all male citizens are required to serve a minimum of 12 months in the military, starting at 18, with options to enlist for up to eight years.

Other nations, including Israel, Cuba, Turkey, and Switzerland, also have compulsory military service laws in place.
