Delhi Zoo Launches Weekly Sunday Bird Walk: Timings & How To Register

The National Zoological Park in Delhi, also known as the Delhi Zoo, has announced a fresh weekend attraction in the capital. They have launched a new “Sunday Bird Walk” citizen-science platform. This particular new initiative allows travelers, wildlife enthusiasts, and residents to experience Delhi’s raw biodiversity beyond the usual crowded monuments and markets. It can make for a fun family weekend activity that is both enthralling and entertaining for people of age 18 and above!

The inaugural walk was held on Sunday, June 14, 2026, guided by prominent ornithologist Dr. Paritosh Ahmad and a dedicated group of birding volunteers. The initial batch successfully documented 33 distinct bird species and recorded over 100 individual sightings across the lush green corridors of the zoo campus.

The crowd-favorite species spotted during the walk include Asian Koel, Black-crowned Night Heron, Indian Cormorant, Indian Peafowl, Painted Stork, White-throated Kingfisher, and Yellow-footed Green Pigeon.

How To Register And What To Keep In Mind

You can secure a spot online via the official Delhi Zoo website or through the dedicated NZP Sathi mobile application. The bird-walk is open to nature lovers aged 18 and above. Furthermore, in order to maintain a quiet environment, each weekly session is limited to just 20 individuals on a first-come, first-served basis.

Remember to wear comfortable, silent walking shoes and carry a pair of binoculars or a DSLR camera for clear sightings. It is important to note that maintaining pin-drop silence throughout the green trail to prevent scaring away native and migratory birds is imperative. Carry an insulated water bottle to stay fully hydrated during the three-hour outdoor trek. 

Timings: Every Sunday morning from 6:30 AM to 9:30 AM. (Reporting time is strictly 6:15 AM to ensure a smooth start.)
