Air India Launches ‘Basic’ Fare On Domestic Routes, No Complimentary Meals Included

Basic Fare

When we talk about complimentary meals on domestic flights in India, Air India frequently tops the list. It is one of the country’s leading airlines, known for offering free meals in all classes on its domestic flights. However, now, Air India has introduced a new option allowing passengers to fly without a meal. This option is part of the airline’s new ‘Basic’ fare family, emphasizing its commitment to enhancing flexibility and affordability for its customers.

The Basic fare complements Air India’s existing fare families – Value, Classic, and Flex- launched in 2024 as part of the airline’s initiative to streamline and improve customer service. This new fare option is currently being trialed on select domestic routes, specifically targeting budget-conscious travelers seeking cost-effective alternatives.

What Is Air India’s Basic Fare Option And What Does It Include?

Travelers opting for the Basic fare will enjoy a checked baggage allowance of 15 kg and a cabin baggage allowance of 7 kg, along with complimentary beverages like tea or coffee. However, meals are not included within this fare. The introduction of the Basic fare gives passengers the flexibility to select a travel experience that aligns with their budget and preferences.

You must also note that this fare is optional, allowing customers to continue booking flights under Air India’s established fare families, which offer complimentary meals and additional benefits at varying price levels. The Basic fare enhances the choices available, catering to those who favor a more streamlined travel experience with reduced costs.

Travelers who select the Basic fare can also pre-order meals- selections include Vegetarian, Non-Vegetarian, Jain, and Diabetic – up to 24 hours before their flight. In cases of schedule changes, pre-ordered meals will automatically be transferred to the new flight or refunded if they cannot be provided.
