However, that may soon change. The Namo Bharat Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) has received approval from authorities for an extension that will link Delhi and Rishikesh.

The approved extension will stretch 150 kilometers and will link the Modipuram region (Meerut) in Uttar Pradesh (UP), all the way up to Uttarakhand. Apart from these regions, the route will also link Roorkee and Haridwar.

The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), the Uttar Pradesh, and the Uttarakhand governments have begun a joint survey for a feasibility study and a Detailed Project Report (DPR).

What Is The Route Of Delhi-Rishikesh RRTS Train?

The existing corridor operates from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Modipuram in Meerut (82 km). The approved 150 km extension will take off from Modipuram, passing through Muzaffarnagar, Roorkee, Haridwar (Har Ki Pauri), and terminate near Lakshman Jhula in Rishikesh.

When Will The Delhi-Rishikesh Rapid Rail Become Operational?

The timeline of the project hasn’t been established yet. The project has received in-principle approvals from the center, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh state governments. Authorities are currently commencing the survey phase to complete the DPR, which will establish official construction timelines and completion targets.
