The road connectivity between Delhi-NCR and one of Himachal Pradesh’s popular destinations, Dharamshala, is set for an upgrade. The upgrade refers to the Kangra region’s several key highway projects nearing completion. These infrastructural developments are set to reduce the road travel time of 9 to 11 hours down to 6 hours. The completion of these projects, including a new highway, is expected by September. Here’s everything you must know about this development.

Reach Delhi To Dharamshala In Just 6 Hours

A new network of four-lane highways across the Kangra region of Himachal Pradesh will soon slash the travel time between Delhi and Dharamshala.  Not only this route, but this upgrade is set to reduce travel time across several stretches of the route. For example, the travel time between Palampur and Chandigarh will be reduced to three and a half hours from 6 hours.

The ongoing work of National Highway-503 (NH-503) is a 99-km stretch. It falls under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). This stretch is expected to improve and strengthen connectivity between Una, Ranital, Mehatpur, and Amb.

This infrastructure push is expected to reduce congestion, reduce traffic movement, and also improve access to Dharamshala. It is one of north India’s most well-known sports and tourist destinations.  The project will address several engineering challenges, like sharp bends and other geometric ones.

Impact To Extend Beyond Delhi-Dharamshala Route

The new Dharamshala-Dehra four-lane alignment is another key component of this project. It includes twin tunnels near Tarsuh village and Riyund Bridge. These will help motorists to avoid congestion in difficult hill terrain and stretches.

The travellers will be able to bypass locations like Kangra bazaar, which are always crowded. They will also be able to bypass winding routes through Daulatpur and Purana Kangra. Hence, the entire journey will have fewer bottlenecks throughout.

This new, improved road network will be very beneficial for the tourism sector in the Dharamshala region. The city has emerged as a tourism spot and sporting hub with the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium. With better connectivity, more visitors will visit the place. The government is also looking into solving challenges associated with a larger inflow of visitors in the future.
