At last, the Central Railway has begun the work of clearing the land required for the Airoli-Kalwa Rail Link. This particular link has been pending for a long time. The project, once completed, is supposed to ease congestion at the Thane station. It is one of the busiest stations in Mumbai and witnesses a large number of footfalls and commuters every day. Residents of Navi Mumbai are eagerly awaiting the completion of the Airoli-Kalwa Rail Link, as it will make traveling significantly easier for them.

According to an article that was recently published by mid-day, the Central Railway authorities have begun clearing the land required for the rail link. As per the report, as many as 150 slums have been razed. This is part of phase II of the project.

The entire project has been divided into two phases. The first consisted of building the Dighe Gaon Station. The second phase is the construction of the corridor. In order to do that, the authorities first needed to clear the land.

Other Details About This Major Railway Project
Apart from facilitating a new, more convenient link between the regions of Navi Mumbai and Kalyan, this particular rail link will also allow Vashi-Belapur to directly connect to the Kalyan side without stopping at Thane.

The project will stretch across eight kilometers, and approximately 3.3 kilometers of this stretch will be an elevated corridor. The elevated corridor will also have ballastless tracks, booking offices, foot underbridges, and staircases. If reports are to go by, the elevated stretch will also have its elevated Kalwa station.
Officials have also stated that the Kalwa-Diva stretch is one of the deadliest and most accident-prone sections on the Central Railway. Relieving this line would be beneficial in saving lives.
