The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra has officially resumed after a five-year suspension, allowing thousands of devotees to once again undertake one of the world's most sacred pilgrimages. Ahead of the arrival of Indian pilgrims, India's Ambassador to China, Vikram Doraiswami, completed the Kailash Parikrama himself while reviewing facilities and preparations along the route. After completing the journey, the ambassador shared several important tips for pilgrims, highlighting the challenges of high-altitude travel and the precautions visitors should take before embarking on the yatra.

Tips Shared By The Indian Ambassador

  • Be Prepared For High Altitude - Most of the yatra takes place above 3,500 meters, while parts of the Kailash Parikrama climb beyond 5,500 meters. Pilgrims should be prepared for thinner air and physically demanding conditions.
  • Do Not Ignore Altitude Sickness - Symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, nausea, and breathing difficulties should be taken seriously. Pilgrims are advised to seek medical assistance immediately if they feel unwell.
  • Carry Proper Trekking Shoes - The ambassador advised against open footwear, recommending waterproof trekking shoes instead. Weather conditions and terrain can change quickly during the journey.
  • Pack For Changing Weather - Conditions around Mount Kailash can shift from sunshine to rain or even snowfall within hours. Warm clothing, rain gear, gloves, and caps are considered essential.
  • Protect Yourself From UV Exposure - High-altitude sunlight can be much stronger than many travelers expect. Sunglasses, sunscreen, and other sun protection items should be part of every pilgrim's packing list.
  • Consult A Doctor Before Traveling - Pilgrims with heart conditions, diabetes, or other chronic illnesses should seek medical advice before undertaking the yatra and carry all necessary medications.
  • Respect The Environment - The ambassador also encouraged pilgrims to avoid littering and help preserve the natural beauty of the region, which is both environmentally sensitive and spiritually significant.
