4.0-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Delhi, Tremors Felt Across NCR

On February 17, 2025, at 5:36 AM, residents in Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad experienced a 4.0 magnitude earthquake. The strong tremors caused many to panic and rush outside their homes as a safety measure. Fortunately, there are no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

An earthquake occurred at a depth of five kilometers, according to a tweet from the National Centre for Seismology. Officials reported that a loud noise was heard at the moment the earthquake struck the Delhi-NCR region. The epicenter was located near the Durgabai Deshmukh College of Special Education in Dhaula Kuan, south Delhi, as stated by a spokesperson for the news agency PTI. The Dhaula Kuan area, which is close to a lake, typically experiences low-magnitude earthquakes every two to three years. Notably, a magnitude 3.3 earthquake was recorded there in 2015.

The Delhi Police stated, "We hope everyone is safe, Delhi!" They also urged citizens to call the emergency helpline 112 for any emergencies.

Social media was flooded with videos showing people standing outside their homes and fans swaying during the tremor.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tweets About The Earthquake

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also urged the public to stay calm and remain vigilant for potential aftershocks. PM Modi took to X and said, "Tremors were felt in Delhi and nearby areas. Urging everyone to stay calm and follow safety precautions, staying alert for possible aftershocks. Authorities are keeping a close watch on the situation."

Besides PM Modi, AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal also tweeted about the 4.0-magnitude Earthquake. AAP leader Atishi conveyed on X that a significant earthquake had shaken Delhi, expressing her prayers for everyone's safety, which was again quoted by AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal who reshared her post.
