Tamil Nadu is all set to transform itself into Southeast Asia’s leading tourism destination in the upcoming five years. The roadmap for the same was discussed in a high-level review meeting of the Tamil Nadu Tourism Department Corporation in Chennai, led by tourism minister S Rajesh Kumar. The high-level review meeting led by Tamil Nadu Tourism Minister S Rajesh Kumar was attended by many senior officials from the tourism department. This included Tourism commissioner and TTDC managing director M S Shanmugam, principal secretary Dr. C Swarna, and TTDC general manager C Lakshmi Priya. They reviewed the initiatives that are focused on
- Transforming the tourism infrastructure
- Strengthening tourist safety
- Designing new travel experiences
- Improving transport facilities

The tourism department is currently working on the launch of a flagship tourism project. At the same time, they are working towards hygienic food and clean toilet facilities across all Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation properties (TTDC).
The officials, as per The Times of India, mentioned that TTDC runs about 50 properties, and 23 of them are operated by franchisees. The tourism minister has instructed that all travellers must get a good culinary experience at these properties. TTDC is looking at emphasising more on technology-driven experiences, modern infrastructure, and enhanced tourist facilities.

Upgrading Tourist Destinations Across Tamil Nadu
The officials mentioned that this was the first meeting led by Tamil Nadu Tourism Minister S Rajesh Kumar. There were many discussions about integrating modern technologies into tourism administration and services. This includes using artificial intelligence (AI) in order to create a more immersive and seamless experience for the tourists.
Their discussion in the meeting also included capacity building and workforce training for tourism personnel. Mr. S Rajesh also instructed the officials to upgrade Tamil Nadu’s tourist destinations.
The officials were also asked to work towards achieving the aim of transforming Tamil Nadu into one of the best tourism hubs with world-class services and facilities. The tourism minister of Tamil Nadu is very particular about maintaining cleanliness.
