ToggleIndiGo Cancels Flight, Passenger Incurs Charges
Generally, when an airline cancels a flight, the full amount is refunded to the passenger. But Kanika Mohan Saxena, who works as the VP of Digital at Vodafone, faced the exact opposite.
In her post, she mentioned that she had booked a return flight ticket from Mumbai to Bali for July 3, 2026, through MakeMyTrip. She has attached payment screenshots for the same, which show INR 1,02,928 as the total cost. However, last week she received a notification from the airline that her flight had been cancelled. It also mentioned that her itinerary was replaced by another option with 18 hours layover. As the option did not seem viable, she reached out to customer care assistance.
The assistant mentioned that there are no other options, but Kanika said her travel agent had found other options. After this, she was rebooked on a Mumbai-Singapore-Bali route, but that flight too was cancelled. She spent hours on a call with the IndiGo assistant to find a solution. Kanika claims that during this call, she was informed that she would receive a complete refund as the airline had initiated the cancellation. She also mentioned that even the MakeMyTrip chatbot mentioned a full refund.

Deductions Questioned; Airline Responds
Later, she received a message that said that only INR 67,334 would be refunded. The deductions (INR 40,000) were as follows:
- INR 27,996 – IndiGo charges
- INR 7,500 – MakeMyTrip charges
- INR 2,000 – ancillary charges
The passenger concluded the post saying that whenever she tried speaking to IndiGo, they would direct her to MakeMyTrip and vice versa. She also wrote that this will be her last time booking their services.
IndiGo responded to the post claiming that they had initiated a full refund. They asked her to coordinate with the booking platform. MakeMyTrip also responded, mentioning that they are validating the details with the airline. They later said that they have processed the refund and shared the details in a private message with the passenger.
