Owing to the ongoing festive season of Onam, travel routes to and from Kerala are packed. Airfares as well as bus fares have skyrocketed. As such, the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation and the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) have launched special bus services that will offer affordable bus travel to people in need. These special bus services will ply till September 2, 2026. KSRTC Launches Special Interstate Bus Services
These special services are plying between August 21, 2026, and August 25, 2026. Then, from August 29, 2026, to September 3, 2026. The Karnataka KSRTC has also announced a special tie-up with a number of universities to provide specialized bus services.
These specialized bus services will pick up students from the campus directly. Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences has already availed of this facility.

Routes, Fares, And How To Book Tickets
The primary routes available with these bus services are mainly to and from Bengaluru and Chennai. Furthermore, the KSRTC has also added new options to its premium network, such as the Volvo Executive Class Service on the Alappuzha-Bengaluru route. It has also added another service between Trivandrum and Ernakulam.
If reports are to go by, more services will also be added if the demand continues to rise. Owing to the rise in demand during Onam, the prices of luxury coach tickets surged significantly. Private luxury coach tickets rose to around INR 3,500.
The KSRTC bus tickets, on the other hand, are priced more affordably at around INR 1,900. According to a senior KSRTC official, those who want to book tickets can do so via the official online platforms as well as offline counters.
