On October 8, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), which was constructed at a cost of INR 19,650 crore. Currently, only the first phase of this much-awaited airport is operational, with plans to officially open to the public in December 2025. Yes, you heard it right! Starting Christmas 2025, you will have the opportunity to board commercial flights from the newly established NMIA.
Akasa Air has already begun accepting bookings, making it one of the first airlines to offer flights from this new hub. Akasa Air is ready to start its services from Navi Mumbai International Airport, establishing direct connections with four cities across India. As part of its launch schedule, Akasa Air will inaugurate its first flight between Delhi and Navi Mumbai International Airport on December 25, 2025. Scheduled flights will also be available to Goa (starting December 25, 2025), Delhi and Kochi (from December 26, 2025), and Ahmedabad (beginning December 31, 2025).
By being among the first carriers to operate from NMIA, Akasa Air marks a significant step in its growth trajectory. The establishment of NMIA is expected to enhance capacity and efficiency standards for airports in India, and Akasa’s early operations at this location demonstrate its dedication to creating a future-oriented network that is both adaptable and expansive.
Akasa Air plans to gradually expand operations from NMIA, aiming for 300 domestic and 50 international flights per week. In alignment with its broader strategy, the airline also intends to develop 10 parking bases by the close of 2027, with a particular focus on enhancing its international services to key markets in the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
