Maha Govt, Cleveland Clinic Sign $1.2-Bn MoU For Navi Mumbai MediCity

The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, has recently made a monumental announcement. Navi Mumbai is poised to get a major boost to its medical infrastructure. The Maharashtra government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the internationally recognized Cleveland Clinic to build a massive medical ecosystem in the city. Known as the Navi Mumbai International MediCity (NMIMC), it is touted to be beyond just a hospital. Here are all the details.

The NMIMC will be a sprawling facility of 250 acres. It’s not just a hospital, but so much more! It will combine patient care with healthcare and artificial intelligence innovation to create a premier medical facility. As of now, the investment costs will be around 1.2 billion USD or INR 10,000 crores.

It is estimated to create roughly 10,000 global job opportunities. The MoU has been signed with the Cleveland Clinic, which is a reputed US-based non-profit, academic medical center. The Brookfield Asset Management and Arodhan Health City will be the key consortium partners for this ambitious project.

Impact On Navi Mumbai Infrastructure

This particular project aligns with the ‘Heal In India’ initiative, which aims to transform the country into the top international destination for medical tourism. It is also aimed at supporting cutting-edge clinical trials and healthcare research. Moreover, the facility’s proximity to the newly opened Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is hoped to make things even more accessible.

The announcement of this facility was made by the CM. He took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to announce that the MoU for the project has been signed. In attendance were Dr. Tomislave Mihaljevic, the CEO of Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Sameer Kapadia, the chairman of Cardiovascular Medicine at Cleveland Clinic, and Lakshmi Mittal, Executive Chairman of ArcelorMittal and Cleveland Clinic Board Member.
