The MMRDA has recently announced that Phase II of the Airoli-Katai Naka corridor is complete. This particular phase stretches across 12.3 kilometers. Phase I of this project also includes a tunnel that is nearing completion as well.

Phase I of the project connects Airoli to Mumbra. It is mostly complete, and the tunnel that is a part of this project is also in its final stages of completion. Phase III of this project is still under construction. It is slated for completion around 2028. Once completed, this stretch will connect NH-04 to Katai Naka.
Travel Time Between Kalyan And Navi Mumbai Cut
Both Phase I and II are slated to open towards the end of 2026. Once open, these phases will cut travel time between Kalyan and Navi Mumbai by 40 minutes. It will also provide seamless, high-speed connectivity between Airoli, Mumbra, and Katai Naka.

One of the salient features of this project is the tunnel. It is made using the New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM) and features an advanced lighting system, high-pressure water mist and firefighting system, and a 24/7 digital surveillance system.
