In a move that will undoubtedly be a great boon for devotees and spiritual travelers alike, the center has decided to run a special train between Jammu and Haridwar on the coming Sunday and Monday, June 14 and 15, 2026, on the occasion of Somvati Amavasya. Earlier this month, the Ministry of State in the Department of Atomic Energy of India (MoS), Jitendra Singh, had written to the Union Minister of Railways of India, Ashwini Vaishnaw, requesting a special train service for devotees to travel between the two regions.

The request was initially made by Prem Nath Dogra, Jammu and Kashmir State Executive Member and In-Charge of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The center accepted the request, and Singh announced on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, that the special train would operate on June 14 and 15. Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), Singh made the announcement and expressed his gratitude toward the PM and the Railway Minister.

What Is Somvati Amavasya?
Falling on Monday, June 15, 2026, Somvati Amavasya is one of the most auspicious new moon days for Hindus. It is associated with Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and is particularly celebrated by married women and devotees of Shivji.

Married women observe this occasion by fasting and performing rituals around the peepal tree, which is one of the most spiritually significant trees in Indian culture. The fast is meant for the longevity of their husband’s life and marital bliss. In one of the rituals, a sacred thread, known as Moli, is tied around the peepal tree 108 times. Milk, flowers, and sweets are also offered.
