One of India’s leading airlines, IndiGo, has just unveiled an exciting fare option called ‘IndiGo Lite’ for Economy Class passengers. This new fare structure caters to travelers who prefer to travel light, allowing them to pay only for the services they intend to use, thus giving them more control over their travel expenses.
Starting July 1, 2026, passengers can book the IndiGo Lite fare exclusively through IndiGo’s official channels, including their website, mobile app, and customer service center. This fare will be applicable to domestic and international nonstop flights and is available for one-way, round-trip, and multicity journeys for both adults and children, with travel commencing on July 15, 2026.

ToggleWhat Is IndiGo Lite And What Should You Know About It
IndiGo Lite aims to meet the diverse needs of travelers both within India and around the globe. With a lower initial price, passengers will have an automatically assigned seat at no extra cost and can bring a cabin bag weighing up to 7 kgs. For those looking for additional comforts, the airline allows for optional upgrades such as checked baggage, preferred seating, in-flight meals, or priority boarding services like Fast Forward. These optional add-ons can be arranged online or at the airport until one hour before departure.
Upon choosing the IndiGo Lite fare, travelers will still earn and redeem IndiGo’s BluChip points, ensuring that loyalty rewards remain accessible for every fare type.
Aloke Singh, Chief Strategy Officer of IndiGo, said, “IndiGo Lite is designed for light packers who wish to pay solely for the services they require. This new fare option underscores our ability to respond proactively to market changes, reaffirming our mission to provide affordable and accessible travel solutions.”
With the introduction of IndiGo Lite, the airline’s portfolio now includes a broader range of travel options under the 6E Ways to Fly banner, which also comprises Saver, Flexi Plus, IndiGo UpFront, IndiGoStretch, and Stretch+. This means more choices for travelers, allowing them to create a travel experience that aligns perfectly with their preferences and budget.

Air India Launches ‘Basic Fare’ On Domestic Routes
IndiGo is not the only airline to introduce a fare structure like this. In June, Air India also launched a ‘Basic’ fare for domestic routes. Passengers choosing the Basic fare will receive a checked baggage allowance of 15 kg and a cabin baggage allowance of 7 kg, along with complimentary beverages such as tea or coffee. However, meals are not included in this fare. The Basic fare aims to give travelers the flexibility to select a travel experience that suits their budget and preferences.
Additionally, passengers who select the Basic fare can pre-order meals—options include Vegetarian, Non-Vegetarian, Jain, and Diabetic—up to 24 hours before their flight. In the event of schedule changes, pre-ordered meals will be automatically transferred to the new flight or refunded if they cannot be provided.
Summing Up
IndiGo’s new IndiGo Lite fare is aimed at travelers who prefer to fly with just cabin baggage and pay only for the services they need.
