It seems that India’s weather, as of now, is all heatwaves and thunderstorms. The northeast is plagued by a lingering wet spell, while Western India is baking in scorching heat. On Friday, May 8, 2026, the temperature in Delhi was a comfortable 19° C to 21° C. However, IMD has predicted that it will witness a spike in temperature soon. For today, temperatures are predicted to peak around 33° C to 35° C.

However, owing to a disturbance from the west, Haryana, Punjab, and Delhi are also slated to experience light rains. In addition to this, isolated pockets of Gujarat and West Rajasthan will experience severe heatwaves between May 9 and May 13.

Northeast To Witness Rain And Thunderstorms
The north and northeastern parts of the country tell a different tale. Uttarakhand is witnessing severe thunderstorms with wind gusts reaching 70 kilometers per hour. Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh are also under a heavy rainfall alert between May 12 and May 13.
