Phu Quoc is the largest island in Vietnam. Known for its white-sand beaches, luxury resorts, world-class cable car system, and vibrant night markets, it has rapidly become one of the most beloved tropical getaways for Indian travelers. Its rich and vibrant offerings have also won it the nickname ‘Pearl Island.’ For those traveling for a beach vacation from India, navigating flight options, layover airports, and specific island visa regulations requires careful planning. This unstumbled guide lays out all the details about direct flight availability, connecting routes, 30-day visa-free and e-Visa rules.

Are There Nonstop Flights From India To Phu Quoc?

Unfortunately, as of now, there are no direct or nonstop year-round flights from India to Phu Quoc. Air India, Sun PhuQuoc, MakeMyTrip, and Air India Express have announced direct routes to Phu Quoc from major Indian hubs such as Delhi and Mumbai. However, these connections are very limited and seasonal.

The most common way that most travelers fly is via 1-stop connecting routes through mainland Vietnam or regional Southeast Asian aviation transit hubs.

Most Popular 1-Stop Connecting Routes

1. Via Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) or Hanoi (HAN)

You can fly non-stop from Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and Kochi into Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi. Then, all you have to do is board a short domestic connecting flight into Phu Quoc.

Airlines: Vietnam Airlines and VietJet Air

2. Via Kuala Lumpur (KUL)

Another way to reach Phu Quoc is to fly from the aforementioned major Indian hubs to Kuala Lumpur. Then, you just have to take a direct international connection straight into Phu Quoc International Airport.

Airlines: AirAsia or Malaysia Airlines

3. Via Bangkok (BKK or DMK)

Flying through Thailand is also another option. You can take a flight to Bangkok directly and then take another flight from there to Phu Quoc.

Phu Quoc Visa Rules For Indian Passport Holders

The visa rules in Phu Quoc vary depending on whether you enter the island directly from abroad or pass through mainland domestic terminals. As such, it is imperative to gain a lucid understanding of the visa requirements here.

Option A: The 30-Day Phu Quoc Visa Exemption (Free)

Fortunately, Indian passport holders can enter Phu Quoc visa-free for up to 30 days. However, this is only applicable to those passengers who meet the following criteria:

  1. You must arrive at Phu Quoc International Airport directly from a foreign country, such as via Kuala Lumpur or Bangkok, without clearing mainland Vietnam immigration, or remain in the international transit area during a connection.
  2. You must stay strictly within Phu Quoc Island for the entirety of your trip.
  3. You must hold an onward or a return ticket departing the island within 30 days of your arrival.

It is very important to keep in mind that in the event that your connecting flight is through Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi and you clear passport control to change to a domestic terminal, the visa exemption does NOT apply as you have officially entered mainland Vietnam.

Option B: Vietnam 90-Day e-Visa (Recommended For Most Travelers)

If your flight is through mainland Vietnam, it is prudent to obtain an official e-Visa before departure. Even otherwise, this is the most recommended visa route for Phu Quoc.

The validity of the e-Visa is 90 days, and it costs $25 for single entry and $50 for multiple entry. You can apply for it online via the official e-Visa portal of Vietnam. Your application will be processed within three to five business days.
