In a move that is aimed at boosting sustainable tourism in the Mawrah Village of Meghalaya, the Chief Minister of this Northeast Indian state, Conrad K Sangma, has inaugurated a glass restaurant. This is a first-of-its-kind restaurant and is officially named The Glass House Restaurant. Situated directly adjacent to the stunning Mawrah Dam, it serves feasts for both the eyes as well as your tummy. This glass restaurant is hoped to provide a memorable experience to tourists and locals alike.

The restaurant was inaugurated on Friday, June 5, 2026, which is internationally celebrated as World Environment Day. As such, the inauguration of the restaurant was aptly timed. Overlooking the massive and picturesque Mawrah Dam, it has a viewing gallery that offers an untainted view of the fog-covered water body.

The CM remarked on the development of the Mawrah village by narrating how it was once a village with severe water scarcity and depleted natural resources. However, over the course of recent years, it has developed into a flourishing little village.

Eco-Tourism Yurts And Cottages Also Unveiled

If taking a flight internationally, you can head to the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati. From there, you can take a domestic flight to Umroi Airport in Shillong. After this, you can take a private cab to Meghalaya.

By train, the nearest station is Guwahati Railway Station, from where you can take a private cab to the state.
