On May 10, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged all citizens to conserve fuel, adopt a work-from-home structure, reduce gold shopping, and take other measures. The reason behind this appeal was the ongoing West Asia crisis. In view of supporting this appeal, Delhi Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, has announced some measures to follow for the citizens. These measures include staggered office timings, work from home for government offices, a ban on official foreign travel, and more by Delhi Government.

Mera Bharat, Mera Yogadaan Campaign
As a part of the city government’s “Mera Bharat, Mera Yogdaan” campaign, the Delhi government has announced some measures to conserve fuel. Rekha Gupta, Delhi’s Chief Minister, as a part of the plan, advised private companies to allow employees to work from home for two days every week. She also mentioned that the government offices will adopt a similar arrangement. As far as the private companies are concerned, the Labour Department will monitor the implementation of the same.
The minister also informed that the government had decided to launch this campaign right after the appeal by PM Modi. This will also include an arrangement where on Mondays, all the ministers and government officials will travel by metro. In order to conserve fuel and ease congestion, the government will also introduce staggered hours for Delhi, civic, and central government offices.

She also appealed to the citizens to reduce the use of private vehicles on weekends. The Chief Minister asked people to follow one “No Vehicle Day” every week. The government, for the next six months, will halt fresh purchases of CNG, petrol, diesel, and hybrid vehicles.
With a view to improving last-mile connectivity for metro passengers, the government will also plan to upgrade feeder bus services. These upgrades will take place in 29 government colonies.

No Major Public Events, Ministers To Avoid Foreign Travel
The government will not host any major conferences or public events for the upcoming three months. This will help in curtailing the expenditure, as per Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. The officials and government ministers of Delhi will be avoiding any kind of foreign travel for a whole year as well.
She mentioned that the government is also looking at the promotion of “Made in India” goods. This will be done by keeping dedicated sections for the same in supermarkets and malls. She added that this decision will also help in giving the Indian-made goods a better preference in government procurement.
Lastly, with an aim to conserve fuel, she has urged people to keep the air conditioner temperatures between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius.
