India boasts over a hundred varieties of mangoes, making them one of the country’s most treasured products. Mangoes are not only popular in India, but they also have a strong following around the world, especially among the Indian diaspora yearning for a taste of home. To ensure that Indians living abroad get a taste of India through mangoes, Air India steps in. Air India plays a key role in transporting this fruit, connecting these communities to their favorite mangoes. In 2026, from March to May, the airline transported an impressive 3,300 tonnes of fresh produce, with over 1,000 tonnes being Indian Mangoes.

In 2026, mango shipments began in March at 805 tonnes, peaked at 1,275 tonnes in April, and maintained a strong supply of 1,233 tonnes in May.

A lot of these mangoes come from India’s famous western states, especially Maharashtra and Gujarat, where the Alphonso and Kesar varieties grow best. These mangoes are known for their delicious sweetness and strong fragrance, and they have many fans from Dubai to New Jersey. Mumbai is the busy center for shipping these mangoes. During the season, London Heathrow received up to 180 tonnes of Indian Mangoes each week, and Frankfurt and Dubai also received regular shipments.

The journey of these mangoes is more than just moving them; it connects cultures and memories.

In cities like Dubai and London, these mangoes remind many people of happy times. The process starts long before the mangoes arrive at the airport, with careful storage methods that keep them fresh from the farm to your table. Air India has put a lot of effort into this, with cold storage facilities at major airports and special containers for keeping the mangoes at the right temperature.

Ramesh Mamidala, Air India’s Head of Cargo, discusses the importance of these shipments. “Transporting over 1,000 tonnes of Indian Mangoes in just three months shows the high demand and our dedication to quality.” Each shipment is not just about the product but also about sharing a piece of Indian culture and the excitement that comes with it, creating connections that span distances."

Summing Up

Air India transported over 1,000 tonnes of Indian Mangoes and 3,300 tonnes of fresh produce between March and May 2026, connecting global consumers with India’s prized fruits. Sourced mainly from Maharashtra and Gujarat, Alphonso and Kesar mangoes reached key international markets, highlighting strong demand and Air India’s efficient cold-chain logistics.
