About Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Mandir

Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Mandir was built in 1893 by Dagdusheth Halwai and his wife Laxmibai. He was a wealthy sweet merchant from Pune. The couple built this temple on the advice of their spiritual guru (to help them heal from this depression) after losing their only son to a plague epidemic.

The Ganesha idol in this temple is about 7.5 feet tall and is adorned with nearly 40 kilograms of precious stones and gold. The biggest highlight of this temple is that the idol is insured for INR 10 million. Hence, the temple trust is one of the richest in Maharashtra and is also involved in various charitable activities. People call it “Navsacha Ganpati,” which means the one who fulfills heartfelt wishes.
