A road trip from Dehradun to Mussoorie can take you well over 1.5 to 3 hours. But that may change over the coming years. The Mussoorie Sky Car Company Pvt. Ltd has started work on building a ropeway that connects the two cities, which will reduce the travel time to under 15 minutes!
At more than 5.5 kilometers in length, it’ll be the longest ropeway system in India, and it’s going to be a mono-cable system. By September 2026, this INR 300 crore project is scheduled to be completed.
For the first time, a ropeway in India will have cabins with ten seats. Every cable car will have automatic doors that open and close, along with complete ventilation, glazing, and enclosure.
Initially, these cabins will be able to accommodate 1300 passengers every hour in each direction. Operating all year round, the ropeway will be functional, irrespective of the weather!
This ropeway will be an incredible accomplishment because it will significantly lessen traffic in the area, particularly during the tourist season. This is India’s first ropeway, being constructed to facilitate urban mobility between the two Uttarakhand cities and boost tourism.
