Mizoram is one of the most underrated destinations in India, and its capital city, Aizawl, as well as its neighboring peak, Reiek, are some of the most serene places to visit in this northeastern state. Perched atop steep, ridge-like mountains, this tranquil hill escape is surrounded by deep river valleys, and it combines vibrant Mizo tribal culture, quiet mountain summits, and cool pine-scented air. While packing these destinations into a longer trip with other destinations might be fun, spending five full days focused exclusively on Aizawl and Reiek allows you to travel at an unhurried and meaningful pace. Here’s an untumbled itinerary that you can follow.
Aizawl And Reiek: What To Know Before Going
If you want to properly enjoy these two destinations at your own pace, it would be prudent to book two separate accommodations at each destination. You can spend three days in Aizawl and two days in Reiek. Before you travel, however, make sure you keep the following in mind:

Inner Line Permit (ILP)
It is mandatory for all outside travelers, whether foreign or Indian, to obtain a permit before entering Mizoram. Indians need an Inner Line Permit (ILP), and foreign nationals need a Protected Area Permit (PAP). You can get a temporary permit for around 15 days either at the Lengpui Airport or you can apply for it online in advance.
Best Time to Travel
For optimal weather conditions, the best time to plan your Mizoram trip would be between October and March. You get to experience dry, non-rainy days, clear mountain visibility, and comfortable daytime temperatures that hover around 16°C to 24°C.
Strict Sunday Closures
It is very important to keep in mind that Mizoram strictly observes Sunday as a day of rest and church worship. As such, all commercial establishments such as shops, cafes, and taxis do not operate normally and remain shut on Sundays. You should either avoid planning your trip around Sundays or use this day for scenic walks, nature trails, or peaceful drives.

Evening
After this relaxing afternoon, enjoy a quiet dinner featuring traditional Mizo dishes such as Bai, which is a steamed vegetable stew with local herbs, and smoked pork. These dishes are quite commonly available, and you can relish them at any local restaurant.
Second Day: Mizo Culture, Monoliths And Local Crafts
Morning

After having your breakfast, you should start with a relaxed visit to Solomon’s Temple, which is located in Kidron Valley. This extraordinary white marble church structure is set amidst manicured gardens and makes for an excellent photography subject.
After taking in this view and exploring the church, you can head to the Mizoram State Museum at Macdonald Hill to view ancient Mizo weapons, traditional textiles, and tribal artifacts.

Afternoon
After freshening up and checking in, embark on an exploration of the Reiek Heritage Village. It is a mere stone’s throw away from the resort and has a meticulous historical reconstruction that showcases traditional Mizo life and features authentic wooden huts of the Village Chief, who is called Lal, bachelor quarters called Zawlbuk, and agricultural granaries.
