Maharashtra is poised to launch a massive tourism plan. With an INR 2,500 crore plan, this Indian state is all set to expand its tourist network in a vision that stretches all the way to 2047. As of now, tourism in Maharashtra is limited to just five major hubs. They are: Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, Nagpur, and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar (formerly known as Aurangabad). However, the government now plans to add a total of 100 new tourism sub-circuits.

A budget of INR 2,500 crore has been earmarked for this humongous project, with 25 crores for each sub-network. This marks the government’s shift in focus towards micro-tourism units as opposed to macro ones.
These micro-tourism sites will be developed based on specific themes like pilgrimage sites, heritage and forts, culinary and agro-tourism, and more!

Digital Portal To Incorporate 100,000 Tourism Units
In addition to the physical infrastructure, the government is also planning to provide digital infrastructure in the form of a portal. This portal will act as a one-stop platform for all tourist needs, from information to booking.
