When we talk about breathtaking night skies filled with stars, the tranquil landscapes of Kaza in Spiti Valley and Hanle in Ladakh often come to mind. However, a new era of stargazing is about to begin in Maharashtra! The state government is eager to attract tourists and provide unique experiences for both travelers and locals. To this end, they have designated 11 special locations across the state. Under its Dark Sky initiative, Maharashtra plans to improve stargazing opportunities, promote education in astronomy, and encourage eco-tourism at these selected sites.

Reports in Hindustan Times highlight the government’s commitment to minimizing light pollution at these locations while developing vital infrastructure, as many sites are situated in remote areas. This initiative coincides with the broader tourism strategy outlined in the Vikasit Maharashtra 2047 plan, which aims to transform the state into a thriving economic hub by 2047.
