Thailand is one of the most accessible international destinations from India, but the cost of getting there can vary considerably depending on your departure city. You might expect Kolkata or Guwahati to have the cheapest flights because they are closer to Thailand, but current fares tell a different story. On selected September dates, a traveler from Mumbai can fly to Bangkok for under INR 10,000 one way, while the lowest fare from Kochi is more than INR 15,000.
The reason comes down to more than just distance. Airline competition, passenger demand, nonstop flight capacity, travel dates, available seats, and even the choice of Bangkok airport can affect the price. For this comparison, we examined the lowest one-way economy fares to Bangkok for travel in September 2026. Bangkok was used as the benchmark because it has significantly greater connectivity with India than most other destinations in Thailand.
Which Indian Cities Have The Cheapest Flights To Thailand?

Based on the lowest fares found for selected September 2026 dates, Mumbai currently comes out cheapest, followed by Kolkata and Bengaluru.
- Mumbai: From INR 9,817
- Kolkata: From INR 10,427
- Bengaluru: From INR 11,612
- Delhi: From INR 13,640
- Hyderabad: From INR 14,273
- Chennai: From INR 14,387
- Guwahati: From INR 15,084
- Kochi: From INR 15,544
These are the lowest fares found on selected dates, not the average price for the month. Airfares are dynamic, and shifting your trip by even a few days can yield very different results.
Mumbai To Thailand
Mumbai currently offers the lowest Bangkok fare among the eight cities, starting at INR 9,817 on September 8. What makes this particularly interesting is that fares on September 2 and 3 were around INR 14,690. Travelers with flexible dates could therefore save close to INR 5,000 simply by changing their departure date.

Mumbai’s advantage comes largely from its substantial international market and competition between Indian and Thai carriers. Travelers can also compare flights arriving at both Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports. If you’re heading to southern Thailand, don’t overlook Phuket either. Mumbai-to-Phuket fares started at INR 10,666 on selected September dates, only around INR 850 more than the lowest Bangkok fare.
Kolkata To Thailand
Kolkata comes in second, with Bangkok fares starting at INR 10,427 on September 26. Unlike Mumbai, geography works in Kolkata’s favor. Its location makes Bangkok considerably closer than India’s western and northern metros, while the city also has established connectivity across Southeast Asia.
Kolkata becomes even more attractive if you can change your travel month. October fares were starting at just INR 8,493, while some dates in March, April, and May 2027 were below INR 8,000. This makes Kolkata one of the strongest departure points for travelers who can plan their vacation around cheaper travel periods.
Bengaluru To Thailand
Bengaluru ranks third, with fares starting at INR 11,612 on September 7. Competition plays an important role here, with several nonstop options alongside numerous connecting itineraries. Travelers also have the option of flying into either of Bangkok’s two major airports. However, that INR 11,612 ticket is particularly date-sensitive.
Several other September departures were priced between INR 13,000 and INR 14,500. If you’re flying from Bengaluru, checking a few dates on either side of your preferred departure could make a meaningful difference.
Delhi To Thailand
Delhi has some of the strongest Bangkok connectivity among Indian cities, but more flights don’t always mean lower fares. The cheapest September ticket found was INR 13,640 on September 13, despite many nonstop services. High outbound demand can keep prices elevated, even with ample airline capacity.
Delhi also shows why travelers should consider the total cost of their journey. If you live in North India, spending several thousand rupees to reach Mumbai to save INR 3,000 or INR 4,000 on the international flight is unlikely to make sense when baggage and extra travel time are considered.
Hyderabad To Thailand
Hyderabad’s lowest fare in September was INR 14,273 on September 4, with many surrounding dates priced between INR 15,000 and INR 16,500. The difference is that Hyderabad’s prices appear relatively consistent.

Minimum fares were around INR 14,273 in September and October and INR 14,078 in November. You may not find sub-INR 10,000 deals from Mumbai, but you’re also less dependent on finding an unusually cheap departure date.
Chennai To Thailand
Chennai’s lowest September fare is INR 14,387, placing it just behind Hyderabad. But looking only at September doesn’t tell the whole story. In October, the lowest fare falls to INR 10,702, a saving of roughly INR 3,700. Chennai is therefore a good example of why checking different months can be just as useful as comparing different departure cities.
Guwahati To Thailand
Guwahati produces one of the most surprising results. Northeast India is much closer to Thailand than Mumbai, Delhi, or Bengaluru, yet the cheapest September Bangkok fare found was INR 15,084. Several other dates were between INR 16,500 and INR 19,000.
It is a useful reminder that airlines don’t price tickets based purely on kilometers traveled. A shorter route with fewer available seats and less competition can cost more than a longer route with multiple airlines competing for passengers.
Kochi To Thailand
Kochi is the most expensive of the eight cities in this September comparison, with fares to Bangkok starting at INR 15,544. There are plenty of flight options, but many involve connections, and only a few are nonstop. This distinction matters because many connecting itineraries do not create the same price competition as several airlines selling nonstop seats on the same route.
Why Are Flights To Thailand Cheaper From Some Indian Cities?
The comparison makes one thing clear: distance alone does not determine airfare. Mumbai being cheaper than Guwahati is the best example. Airline competition is a major factor. Routes served by several carriers give passengers more choices and encourage airlines to compete on price.

Nonstop capacity also matters, as does passenger demand. Bangkok’s two airports can offer different fares, and seasonality and seat availability can cause prices on the same route to change significantly from one day to the next.
Should You Fly To Bangkok Or Phuket?
Bangkok is the obvious gateway for many trips to Thailand, but it shouldn’t be the only airport you search. For example, Mumbai-to-Phuket fares started at INR 10,666 on selected dates in September, compared with INR 9,817 to Bangkok. If you’re planning a Phuket vacation, paying around INR 850 more to fly there directly could save the time and expense of traveling south from Bangkok.
From Kolkata, however, Phuket started at INR 13,095 compared with INR 10,427 to Bangkok, making Bangkok the more affordable entry point in this particular comparison.
What Should You Check Before Booking?
Don’t judge a flight purely by the first price you see. A cheaper ticket may exclude checked baggage, meals, seat selection, or flexible changes, which can quickly narrow the difference between two fares. Compare nearby departure dates, check both Bangkok airports, look at nonstop and connecting services, and search for flights directly to your final Thai destination.

If you’re considering flying from another Indian city to access a cheaper international fare, add the domestic flight, baggage, transfers, and extra travel time before deciding whether you’re actually saving money.
Author’s Note
Flight prices are one of those parts of travel planning where a little flexibility can make a surprisingly big difference. What stood out about these fares was that Mumbai came out cheaper than cities geographically much closer to Thailand. It is a good reminder that one should never book their tickets based on distance or assume the nearest departure city will be cheapest. Checking a few different dates, airports, and routes before paying can genuinely save a considerable amount.
Summing Up
For September 2026, Mumbai currently has the cheapest Bangkok fare among the eight Indian cities compared, followed by Kolkata and Bengaluru. But the results also show why no Indian city will always be the cheapest for Thailand.
If your dates are flexible, changing your departure day or month can sometimes save more than changing your departure city. And if you’re heading beyond Bangkok, searching flights to your actual destination could make the overall trip cheaper. The best fare is ultimately the one that keeps your journey’s total cost low, not simply the ticket with the smallest number on the booking screen.
