This summer, parts of North India are facing extreme heat, with temperatures reaching an unbearable 45-48 degrees Celsius in some areas. And now, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert today, 27th May, for heatwaves across several regions, including Delhi, where temperatures are expected to stay between 43 and 45 degrees.

Heatwave conditions are not limited to just Delhi; they are anticipated to affect Haryana, Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Vidarbha as well. Other states like Chhattisgarh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Telangana, and Uttarakhand are also bracing for similar sweltering weather.
In addition to the soaring daytime temperatures, warm, sticky nights are likely across Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, and Vidarbha.

However, on a brighter note, the IMD is also predicting some heavy rainfall in parts of northeast India, Bihar, Interior Karnataka, Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim, providing a much-needed respite from the heat.
IMD Issues A Monsoon Warning For Himachal, Kerala & Jammu-Kashmir
Besides the heatwave Yellow Alert, IMD has also issued alerts to residents in multiple regions about imminent rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds, particularly raising concerns in Kerala due to heavy rainfall. A significant weather system is moving eastward, impacting several Himalayan states as well.
Satellite imagery reveals a distinctive cloud formation linked to a western disturbance over North India, stretching across Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Meanwhile, the Arabian Sea shows signs of intensified monsoon activity, with clouds developing near Kerala. The IMD predicts the monsoon could arrive earlier than the usual June 1 start date.

IMD has issued a Yellow Alert for Delhi and several other states on May 27. While regions including Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh remain on high heat alert, the weather department has also warned of warm nights and rising humidity levels.
