Make sure your body is sufficiently rested and acclimatized to the higher altitude of Manali. Once you feel ready, you can embark on your hilly odyssey.

9:30 PM To 12:30 PM: You should start at the 16th-century Hadimba Devi Temple. It is set amid dense Deodar forests that are breathtaking to witness. Then, you can enjoy pony rides and Yak photos for kids. After this, you can walk through Van Vihar National Park down to the Beas riverbank.

2 PM To 5 PM: After a nice lunch at a local restaurant, you can explore the Manali Monastery (Himalayan Nyingmapa Gompa) and stroll along Mall Road.

Evening: In the evening, you can enjoy the variety of street food that Manali offers. Siddu and hot chocolate are absolutely unskippable.

8 AM To 1 PM: On the second day of the trip, you can drive through the historic Atal Tunnel (9.02 km long at 10,000 feet) to reach Sissu Village in the Lahaul Valley. Don’t forget to behold the Sissu Waterfall and surrounding glacier peaks.

10 AM To 1:30 PM: Next on the itinerary is Naggar Castle. It is a 500-year-old wood-and-stone palace overlooking the Kullu valley. Fun fact: This castle has featured in many Bollywood films! It is located 20 km away by road.

Author’s Note

I think that the best time to visit Manali with your family is between March and June. Not only will the kids be free owing to it being the summer vacations of school, but the weather will also be pleasant. During these months, the temperature generally hovers around 10°C to 25°C. However, if you want to visit with the express purpose of playing in the snow, I would recommend that you go there during the winter season, which is around December to February. But if you are going to Manali during this time, remember to carry thermal wear as the weather can get fairly extreme.

Summing Up

Manali is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country and for a good reason. It offers pleasant weather that provides a relief from the heat of the cities. The plethora of tourist attractions also makes it a great place to visit with friends and family. However, it is important to acclimate yourself. Your body can react to the difference in altitude, so you have to be mindful of it, especially if you’re traveling with kids or elders. If you remember to pack according to the weather and are mindful of your physical health, you will surely have a great time with your family.
