ToggleLadakh Packing List: What To Carry?
Pack Multiple Layers
Ladakh, for most travelers, will generally be colder than temperatures their body is used to. So we advise you to pack a minimum of three layers of clothing – pack a thick, water-proof jacket, a fleece jacket to wear inside the thick jacket, and your base layer of clothing (t-shirts, shirts, etc). You can add more layers depending on how cold you feel, however, minimum three layers are advisable keeping Ladakh’s weather in mind.
Emergency Medical Kit
An emergency medical kit is the ultimate key to surviving Ladakh. As it is located at a high altitude, all travelers must spend a day or two acclimatizing to get a ‘hang’ of the drastic weather change.
If you have any medical conditions, carry your medicines with a valid prescription in the medical kit. Carry medicine that helps combat Acute Mountain Sickness, such as Diamox. Also make sure to carry other first-aid essentials like band-aid, scissors, hand sanitizer, disinfectant, etc.

Insulated Water Bottle
When you’re scaling high altitudes, staying hydrated is essential in maintaining body fluid levels to an optimum. Therefore we advise you to carry a reusable water bottle, preferably insulated. Carry adequate warm water with you and ensure to keep drinking water – at least 3 to 4 liters every day.
Sturdy Shoes And Socks
Carry shoes sturdy enough to survive on Ladakh’s rocky, rugged terrain. While you can invest in good-quality trekking shoes or sports shoes, you can also rent them from sites such as Sharepal. Renting shoes and other trekking gear is a cost-effective way if you don’t plan to fully invest in such gear.
Carry at least three to four pairs of socks, preferably of thick material like wool, to keep your feet insulated in the cold Ladakh weather. Along with sturdy shoes, you can carry one to two additional pairs of shoes for days when you’ll go casual strolling or for simpler walks.
Skincare And Accessories
Ladakh’s harsh winter climate can damage your skin in the long run if you don’t carry the right skincare products. Carry travel-sized variants of skincare essentials like a 40 or 50 SPF+++ sunscreen, moisturizer, cleanser, and other products that you use.
Also carry toiletries like your toothbrush and toothpaste, facewash, liquid bath gel, and others. Ensure that you carry travel-sized variants of these products in line with airline policies.
Electronic Gadgets
It goes without saying that you need your electronic gadgets by your side during a trip, especially your mobile phone. However, to keep it charged, ensure that you carry a power bank and a power adapter.
Make sure to carry your power bank and other electronic gadgets in the hand luggage rather than the checked-in luggage. Also make sure to carry all other electronic gadgets such as cameras, batteries, tripods, etc to capture the beauty of Ladakh!
