The stunning Andaman Islands boast crystal-clear waters, pristine beaches, and offer exhilarating activities like snorkeling and scuba diving. On May 2, 2026, a remarkable event unfolded, marking a historic moment for the region. The Andaman and Nicobar administration achieved a new Guinness World Record by unfurling the largest underwater national flag at Radhanagar Beach.

The World’s Largest Underwater National Flag, measuring approximately 60 by 40 meters, was deployed underwater through a well-coordinated operation involving multiple agencies and trained divers at Swaraj Dweep, formerly known as Havelock Island. Havelock Island is a famous tourist destination in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, situated 39–41 km northeast of Port Blair.

This accomplishment surpassed Mohammed Al Moayed’s prior record of 2,027.70 square meters, which he established in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, on October 3, 2024.

Prominent figures, including Lieutenant Governor D.K. Joshi, Chief Secretary Chandra Bhushan Kumar, and Director General of Police H.S. Dhaliwal, attended the momentous event. Important collaboration among the Andaman and Nicobar Police, the Forest Department, the Indian Navy, the Indian Coast Guard, and various diving centers was crucial for the successful unfurling of the flag.

On May 2, 2026, at 10:35 AM, Rishi Nath recognized this achievement. He presented Joshi with the certificate as a Guinness World Records adjudicator.

You must also know that three schoolchildren – Fateh Jahaan Singh (16), Lavanya Eira (15), and Ranvijay Singh (14) – were among the 200 divers participating in this remarkable event. This highlights the Andaman Islands’ emergence as a premier destination for adventure and marine tourism.
