4 New Dive Sites To Boost Marine Tourism In Diglipur
For years, Havelock and Neil Islands have been the top choices for water adventure sports in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The two islands are tourist hotspots for all kinds of water sports like scuba diving, snorkeling, and more.
Now, in a major push to expand water adventure sports, the Directorate of Information, Publicity & Tourism, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, has officially recognized four new scuba-diving sites in Diglipur.
It marks a significant shift that could transform Diglipur into India’s next big scuba diving destination, while also helping reduce the stress on the heavily visited Havelock and Neil Islands.
These four new dive sites are located about 320 km north of Port Blair or Sri Vijaya Puram. Diglipur, despite its dramatic landscapes, quiet beaches, and dense tropical forests, remains largely unexplored in India’s recreational diving circuit.
Information About Four New Dive Sites In Diglipur
- The Pristine Shoreline Sanctuary
The first newly identified site is located just off the coast of Ross & Smith Islands. Ideal for beginners, the dive depth here ranges from 2 to 12 meters. Divers are not required to board a boat to get to the site; they can simply swim into the ocean from the beach.
- The Deep Blue Bridge
This site is located northeast of the Ross & Smith sandbar. It is a boat-diving site offering depths ranging between 3 and 11 meters. This site is perfect for certified divers looking to sharpen their skills. This site has vibrant coral reefs and other structures, including brain coral, staghorn coral, and anemone clusters.
- Small Wall Off Ross Island
While this site has no official name and is referred to as the ‘small wall off Ross Island’, it stands out for its striking underwater scenery. The dive starts on an 8- to 10-meter high reef shelf before plunging to a 21-meter wall.
- Wall Of Craggy / Gentle Slope
This site is the deepest among the four, exciting seasoned divers. With a depth range of 8 to 31 meters, this site is where you can easily spot manta rays, eagle rays, and even the dugong.
A Major Economic & Tourism Boost For North & Middle Andaman
The announcement of unveiling four new dive sites in North Andaman will prove to be a major boost for the local economy and tourism. For many years, Andaman’s scuba diving tourism has largely thrived in the southern islands, concentrating economic benefits in the south. Diglipur’s potential, with the launch of four new dive sites, can help empower local communities, boost tourism, and contribute to newer opportunities.
