Ahead of Independence Day, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is stepping up security at all of the metro stations. This means that frisking and baggage scanning will be done in greater detail. These increased checks may lead to longer queues and increased wait times. The goal behind the move is to ensure safety, as there is a greater surge of people traveling to Delhi around Independence Day. Here are all of the other important details that you would need to know about this particular security update.
Delhi Metro Independence Day Restrictions

According to the Principal Executive Director of Corporate Communications of the DMRC, Anuj Dayal, these increased security checks began on Sunday, August 9, and will continue till Sunday, August 16. He also mentioned that travelers should be prepared for a slight delay in their usual travel as the frisking is likely to take longer than usual.
He also asked travelers to plan their travel while taking into consideration this delay for Delhi Metro security checks on 15 August. The security checks will be carried out by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). Travelers are also advised to cooperate with the CISF officials during the frisking.

Items Not Allowed On Delhi Metro
Here is a list of items that are not allowed inside the Delhi Metro:
- Firearms
- Explosives
- Inflammable Liquids
- Sharp Objects
- Certain kinds of knives and tools
- Other sharp objects
What Happens If You’re Found Carrying Any Prohibited Item

If you’re found carrying any of these items, the consequences will vary depending on the item you’re carrying.
If Found Carrying A Weapon Or Dangerous Item
- The person carrying the item will be detained immediately.
- They will be handed over to the police.
- Legal charges may be brought against them under relevant sections.
- As these offences are non-bailable, they might be sentenced to jail.
If Found Carrying Other Prohibited Items Like Open Alcohol Bottle, Knives, Etc.
Depending on the item, you may face any or all of the following consequences:
- The item will be seized by the Metro security officials.
- The person carrying the item may be refused entry on the Metro.
- They may also face removal or ejection from the Metro.
- Cloakroom or locker facilities may also be denied to the person, meaning they won’t be able to store their item there and come back for it later.
- A monetary fine may be levied on the person in possession of prohibited items.
Delhi Metro Independence Day Timings
For Independence Day, the Delhi Metro will commence operations earlier than usual. Just to accommodate the crowds for that day, Delhi Metro will begin service from 4 AM onwards. Trains will ply every 30 minutes on all of the lines of the Delhi Metro until 6 AM. After this, the trains will operate as per their usual schedule.
On regular days, the Delhi Metro commences operation at 6 AM and trains arrive every two to four minutes.
