The soon-to-be longest flight in the world is one step closer to reality. Qantas Airways has successfully conducted the test runs for its Sydney-London flight route that will span a whopping 22 hours. Dubbed ‘Project Sunrise’, this flight route, once launched, will dethrone the New York JFK to Fuzhou, China, flight route as the longest in the world. This current longest flight takes more than 19 hours to cover. Here are all the details about this new longest flight.

The aircraft for this flight route will be specially modified. As such, the test runs deployed a modified A350-1000ULR Airbus in Toulouse, France, where the test runs were conducted. During the test run, the flight remained airborne for around three hours and 43 minutes.

The altitude of the jet was a tad bit higher than 41,000 feet. These initial performance tests aimed to test the complex fuel system architecture that is needed to keep a jet safely in the air. Moreover, it also checked the specialized flight test instrumentation.

How Will It Combat Passenger Fatigue?

Staying air-borne in a pressurized environment is no minor feat. As such, the aircraft is currently taking into consideration and refining its ventilation system. It is refining its cooling system to support extended meal and beverage services.

Once launched, the ambitious route will connect the western coast of Australia, Sydney, to the largest city in the UK, London.
