sā Ladakh Biennale Is Returning For Its Inaugural 2026 Edition
“Sā” in the Ladakhi language simply means soil and is hosted in one of the planet’s most ecologically sensitive regions. “Biennale” is an Italian word for biennial and is used to refer to a large-scale international contemporary art exhibition, which is hosted every two years. This art festival is unique as it focuses on sustainability-led artwork.
This art exhibition has a theme for its signature biennale, and this year the theme is “Signals from Another Star.” The theme is a way to ask people, as well as the artists, to develop a deep respect for learning, lived experience, regeneration, memory, and climate.

The art exhibition will host Ladakhi artists like Chemat Dorjey, Stanzin Wangail, Tundup Dorjay, Stanzin Samphel, Urgain Zawa, and Stanzin Tsepel. The other huge names are Himali Singh Soin, Jitish Kallat, and David Soin Tappeser. Among these, David Soin Tappeser and Himali Singh Soin will be working as the duo Hylozoic or Desires.
This event will also see international practitioners, including the Swiss duo Studio Eidola and Austrian artist Anna Jermolaewa. The ratio of local-to-international artists is half-and-half. One of the few hard rules of the biennale is to be fair and inclusive always.
