The update came on Tuesday, 29 April, from the government’s publicity department on the basis of a meeting that Pratap Sarnaik held with the representatives of autorickshaw drivers.

Regional Transport Office (RTOs) will begin a state-wide drive where they will cancel the license of a driver if they are found to violate other rules or are involved in any illegal transport activities. However, the transport minister of Maharashtra, Pratap Sarnaik, has ensured that licenses will not be cancelled solely on the basis of language.

He, however, still maintained his stance of “if you want to do business in Maharashtra, you must know Marathi”. This inspection campaign will finally conclude on August 15, 2026. The decision regarding the cancellation of licences on the basis of language will be made then, after a report about the inspection campaign is submitted.
