The Moatsu Festival is celebrated by the Ao tribe of Nagaland in May, and this year it will be celebrated from May 1 to May 3, 2026. This festival honors the deity Lonkhimongba and also marks the peak of the agricultural season. It is believed that worshipping this deity brings bountiful harvests. 

 Competitions in wrestling, indigenous games, and archery showcase physical prowess, while bonfires light up nights with storytelling. The festival promotes eco-friendly farming and tribal unity.

Held primarily in villages like Longkhum, Ungma, and Mokokchung, it signifies the end of sowing season as well as the starting of the weeding season. They thank their ancestors for fertile land as well.

The Ritual of Sangpangtu: A large communal bonfire is lit and people gather around it to sing folk songs.

Chuchuyimlang Village: Known as the “Festival Village,” Chuchuyimlang offers the most authentic Moatsu experience. It is designated by Nagaland’s government as the official destination for Moatsu Festival since 2000. Located 40 km from Mokokchung on NH-61, it hosts three days of lively songs, dances, and rituals invoking blessings for harvest.
