Indian Embassy Issues Advisory For Vietnam Travel Despite Phu Quoc Visa-Free Entry

Phu Quoc

In recent years, Phu Quoc Island has become a favorite destination for many Indian travelers. This stunning island, the largest in Vietnam, allows Indian tourists to enter without a visa. However, there are important considerations to keep in mind if you’re thinking about visiting.

The Indian Embassy has issued a notice for travelers which states that while Indian citizens can enjoy visa-free entry to Phu Quoc, this permission comes with specific conditions. It’s important to know that this visa exemption only applies to stays on the island and does not allow entry into mainland Vietnam.

Phu Quoc Is Visa-Free For Indians, But In Case Of Emergencies, It’s Best To Have A Valid Vietnam Visa

In some cases, travelers may encounter unexpected situations such as medical emergencies or flight cancellations, which could require them to travel to mainland Vietnam for treatment or assistance. If someone finds themselves in this situation without a valid visa for mainland Vietnam, they could face consequential challenges, including delays in getting medical help, travel limitations, and other immigration issues.

The Indian Embassy further highlights that Indian travelers should obtain a Vietnam visa before heading to Phu Quoc, even if they plan to stay only on the island. Traveling without the necessary visa could lead to complications if you need to go to mainland Vietnam for any reason.

Another point of concern is the loss of Indian passports during travel in Vietnam. There have been cases where Indian citizens have lost their passports while visiting. In such situations, it is essential to immediately report the loss to the local police and obtain a report to present to the Embassy or Consulate in Vietnam.

The Embassy works to issue an Emergency Certificate or Travel Document on the same day a request is made. However, even after receiving this document, obtaining an Exit Permit from Vietnamese authorities can take anywhere from 3 to 5 working days, and sometimes even longer. During this period, travelers may need to remain in Vietnam until the Exit Permit is granted. Hence, it’s important to stay informed and prepared for any travel complications.
