Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) announced that Terminal 2 (T2), which closed in April 2025 for a complete renovation, is set to reopen for travelers on October 26, 2025. This date aligns with the start of the winter schedule, as confirmed by Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL). The upgrade to Delhi Airport’s T2 was prompted by the full operational status of Terminal 1. GMR AERO – Asia’s largest private airport operator- led the extensive revamp to prepare T2 for the increasing number of passengers. The new design aims to enhance the travel experience by offering modern amenities and streamlined processes.
When it comes to the operation of Delhi airport, from the night of October 25 to 26, around 120 daily domestic flights operated by Air India and Indigo will transition to the upgraded terminal. This move is expected to enhance airport operations and significantly improve the travel experience for passengers daily.
What Are The Upgrades You Should Know About Delhi Airport’s Terminal 2
Key enhancements at the upgraded T2 include a Self Baggage Drop (SBD) facility, allowing travelers to check in their luggage independently. This feature reduces waiting times and makes the overall airport experience more efficient – passengers can check in their bags within minutes by simply scanning their boarding passes and tagging their luggage.
Besides this, the terminal has introduced state-of-the-art Passenger Boarding Bridges (PBBs) that utilize autonomous docking technology, which is a first in India. These bridges will enable quicker aircraft handling while ensuring passenger safety and comfort. Designed with modern aesthetics, the bridges also include features like elevated ramps for wheelchair users and swing doors for operator safety.

In terms of aesthetics and design, Delhi Airport’s revamped terminal promises a bright and inviting space, enhanced with modern ceilings and innovative skylights.
It offers advanced flooring solutions for durability, improved road access, and upgraded mechanical and electrical systems to maintain optimal air quality and comfort. Additionally, a new Flight Information Display System (FIDS) will provide real-time updates with improved accuracy.
Signage throughout the terminal focuses on accessibility for individuals with reduced mobility, ensuring a smoother airport experience for everyone. The airside and apron areas have also undergone substantial refurbishments to accommodate rising passenger traffic efficiently.
