Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis Flags Off Mumbai Metro Line 9 Trial

Mumbai Metro Line 9

Great news for Mumbaikars! The long-awaited Metro-9 project, which will link Dahisar (East) to Mira-Bhayandar, is moving forward and is expected to launch in phases, with the first phase likely to open by the end of 2025. On May 14th, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde, gave a green flag to the trial runs for Phase 1, which runs from Dahisar (East) to Kashigaon. They also inspected the route, signaling important progress for this ambitious transportation initiative.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) reports that civil work on this stretch is now about 85% finished. Because there are still some parts that need to be completed, the rollout will occur in two stages. First, the section from Dahisar (East) to Kashigaon will be made available, followed by the complete corridor once all stations and facilities are ready. Officials believe that after the trial runs, the first phase will be ready for public use, aiming for a ribbon-cutting ceremony toward the end of 2025.

Mumbai Metro Line 9 Will Open In 2 Phases And Have 10 Stations

Mumbai Metro Line 9, also known as the Red Line, extends the already operational Metro-7 (from Dahisar East to Andheri East) to improve connectivity across the east-west direction in the suburbs. This new metro line is expected to significantly cut down travel times and reduce congestion in northern Mumbai and Mira-Bhayandar.

The Mumbai Metro Line 9 will stretch 13.581 km (11.386 km elevated and 2.195 km underground) and will include 10 stations. It will connect with the existing Western Express Highway, Western Railway, and ongoing Metro lines 2A and 7. This infrastructure will provide better rail access to commercial areas, government offices, and key landmarks in Mumbai, cutting current travel time by 50% to 75% depending on traffic conditions.

The project spans 13.581 km with a total of 10 stations, featuring an elevated route from Dahisar (East) to Mira-Bhayandar, including stations like Dahisar, Pandhurang Wadi, and Miragaon, among others.

With an 8-coach train capable of carrying 2,352 passengers, this project is set to greatly enhance travel efficiency for many residents!
