Mumbaikars, here’s some exciting news for your daily commute! The much-awaited Aqua Line, also known as Mumbai Metro Line 3, has successfully launched. It is already making life easier for commuters. This line, which connects areas like Bandra and SEEPZ, is a game-changer, offering a quick alternative to the usual road traffic. Now, there’s more good news on the horizon! We have updates for Mumbai Metro’s Gold Line. The Gold Line, or Mumbai Metro Line 8, will bridge the gap between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport.
This metro corridor, part of the city’s bigger Metro Master Plan, will ease travel between these two points, saving time and reducing road congestion.
The Mumbai Metro’s Gold Line is expected to be ready by October 2026. It will cost around INR 15,000 crores to build. Once completed, it will cover about 35 kilometers. It aims to carry up to 9 lakh passengers daily, making it a vital part of Mumbai’s growing transport network.
Though construction hasn’t begun yet, work is expected to pick up speed with the opening of the Navi Mumbai International Airport. This new metro line will surely be a real blessing for commuters.
What To Know About Aqua Line
Mumbai has officially opened its first underground metro as Phase 1 of the Aqua Line is now operational. This new line spans 12.69 kilometers and includes 10 stations, running from Aarey to BKC. The stations are Aarey, Marol Naka, CSMIA Terminal 1, MIDC, SEEPZ, Sahar Road, CSMIA Terminal 2, Vidyanagari, Dharavi, and BKC. Notably, nine of these stations are underground, with Aarey being the only ground-level station.
The metro service will operate 96 trips daily, running from 6:30 AM to 10:30 PM on weekdays and from 8:30 AM to 10:30 PM on weekends. Each train can accommodate over 2,000 passengers, making it a significant addition to the city’s public transport options. Fares range from INR 10 to INR 50. The full Metro Line 3 will be fully operational by June 2025.
