Home to a whopping 600 distinct species of wild alpine flowers, including the famously elusive Brahmakamal, the Valley of Flowers National Park has finally opened its doors. It operates under the strict custodianship of the Nanda Devi National Park Division.

Both the Nanda Devi National Park as well as the Valley of Flowers are adjacent to one another, and are strictly protected. This ensures that the surrounding glaciers, meadows, and wildlife remain protected from commercial development. These habitats are home to rare animal species like the snow leopard and the Asiatic Black Bear.

Best Time To Visit And How To Reach
The peak blooming season is in July and August, and is widely considered the best time to visit. Because the national park is a strictly protected ecological zone, motorable roads will only take you so far. The final journey requires a classic Himalayan trek.

If arriving by air, you will need to hire a private cab or board a state transport bus from the airport, traveling up the mountains to the road terminus at Govindghat. If arriving by train, the closest railhead is located in Rishikesh, situated roughly 273 km away from the base point via National Highway 58 (NH58). Regular shared jeeps, taxis, and buses ply this mountain highway daily.
From the roadhead at Govindghat or the nearby village of Poolna, visitors must undertake a 16 km trek across moderate, winding mountain terrain to access the valley system.
